About the Role
UPLIFT Public Charter Schools is seeking a dedicated and experienced Culinary Staff Member to join our food services team. The Culinary Staff Member will play a key role in preparing and serving nutritious meals to students and staff, maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment, and promoting healthy eating habits among our school community.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and cook a variety of menu items, including breakfast, lunch, snacks, and special dietary options, in accordance with established recipes, portion sizes, and food safety guidelines.
Assist with meal planning, menu development, and inventory management to ensure adequate food supplies are available for daily operations.
Follow proper food handling, storage, and sanitation procedures to maintain health and safety standards in the kitchen and dining areas.
Ensure that all food products meet quality and freshness standards and address any issues or concerns promptly.
Monitor food temperatures during cooking, holding, and serving to prevent foodborne illnesses and ensure food safety.
Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, and nutritionists to accommodate special dietary needs and preferences of students and staff.
Provide friendly and courteous customer service to students and staff during meal service, answering questions, addressing concerns, and promoting healthy eating habits.
Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, and work surfaces on a regular basis, following established cleaning schedules and protocols.
Assist with receiving and storing food deliveries, rotating stock, and maintaining accurate records of inventory levels and usage.
Participate in training sessions, workshops, and professional development opportunities to enhance culinary skills, food safety knowledge, and customer service.
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent.
Culinary training or certification from a recognized culinary school or program preferred.
Previous experience working in a commercial kitchen or food service environment preferred.
Knowledge of basic cooking techniques, food preparation methods, and culinary principles.
Familiarity with food safety regulations, sanitation practices, and HACCP guidelines.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Commitment to promoting healthy eating habits and providing high-quality food service.
