About the Role
UPLIFT Public Charter Schools is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Dean of Campus Safety to oversee the development and implementation of comprehensive safety and security measures across our campuses. The Dean of Campus Safety will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of students, staff, and visitors and promoting a positive school culture grounded in respect, responsibility, and accountability.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and evaluate safety and security policies, procedures, and protocols to promote a safe and supportive learning environment for all stakeholders.
Collaborate with school leadership, staff, students, parents, and community partners to identify safety needs, concerns, and priorities, and develop proactive strategies and initiatives to address them.
Provide leadership and direction to campus safety personnel, including security officers, school resource officers, and other staff responsible for safety-related functions.
Coordinate emergency preparedness and response efforts, including conducting drills, training sessions, and tabletop exercises to ensure readiness for various scenarios.
Conduct regular safety assessments and inspections of school facilities, grounds, and equipment, and make recommendations for improvements as needed.
Monitor and analyze safety-related data and incidents, identify trends and patterns, and implement interventions and preventive measures to mitigate risks and enhance safety.
Serve as a liaison with law enforcement agencies, emergency responders, and community organizations to coordinate resources and support for school safety initiatives.
Provide guidance and support to students, staff, and families on safety-related issues, including bullying prevention, conflict resolution, and crisis intervention.
Develop and deliver safety-related training programs and educational workshops for students, staff, and parents to promote awareness, preparedness, and empowerment.
Stay informed about relevant laws, regulations, and best practices related to school safety and security, and ensure compliance with applicable requirements.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Education, Public Administration, or related field (Master's degree preferred).
Minimum of 5 years of experience in school safety, law enforcement, emergency management, or a related field, with demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience.
Knowledge of safety and security principles, practices, and procedures in educational settings, including threat assessment, crisis management, and risk mitigation strategies.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to build positive relationships and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Ability to analyze data, assess risks, and make sound decisions under pressure in emergency situations.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and safety/security management software.
Certification in school safety/security, emergency management, or related areas preferred.
